Custom CPU coolers

Go to solution Solved by zzenigmaxzz,

if youre not overclocking and you dont care about looks or silence then aftermarket coolers are pointless for you, the stock cooler will do just fine

aftermarket coolers are basically to address all the things you dont care about lol

I've been using my stock Intel CPU cooler since I bought my PC nearly 3 years ago.

I was wondering what's the benefit of stock CPU coolers.

I don't care about:

Silent

Looks

Branded

I do care about performance.

I'm only using a i5 third gen CPU without overclocking.

You'll see lower temps when you open up a program that reads temps.

There really isn't anything beyond aesthetic reasons why you would replace the stock cooler on Intel CPUs. AMD is all over the place but most overclock their AMD stuff so an aftermarket cooler is recommended.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

That's as may be, but AMD also has significantly better stock coolers than Intel does. I'd still get an aftermarket cooler for noise reasons, but a non-overclocked AMD processor will do just as well, if not better, with its stock cooler as a non-overclocked Intel processor will do with its.

Depends on the stock cooler. The ones on i5s and i7s use copper and, on a rig @ and I built where we had a 4460 and stock cooler and it barely reached 60C and was completely inaudible. Newer stock coolers on AMD may be good but it should be noted that the stock Intel cooler is not bad by any means if you have no plans to overclock.
