Just today, my computer started having problems with connecting to the internet. It'll randomly go from having a decent signal strength, down to nothing in a second, then come back a minute later. It seems like the problem seems to be related to poor signal strength because whenever I move my laptop closer to my modem, the signal strength returns in full. However, I've never had this problem before today. Right now I am in the middle of a virus scan, but I doubt that to give me much help because I haven't downloaded anything in about 4 days. I've done a bit of research, and so far nothing I've looked up has helped.

I'm running Samsung laptop with Windows 8

Do you have multiple access points? That *sounds like your computer is switching between different networks.

It could even happen with one if it was broadcasting at both 2.4 G and 5G. You see the farther you get- it will switch to the 2.4g because 5g is weak.

What kind of modem/ router do you have?

At school they DEFINITELY have multiple access points (with same name) so it is definitely going to bounce around.

If this is the issue- it probably is seeing as how you have a stable? connection from up close, we can adjust the roaming settings to make sure its more sticky to the connected network.

Make sure you dont have a neighbors wifi registered - it could be trying to connect to that because its stronger etc and then it goes back to yours.

Yeah, so I did some testing. I tested my internet on a phone, ipod, and computer that were all in the same area where my laptop doesn't get internet, and they all worked. So I doubt it has much to do with needing a new access point (Although I'm not %100 sure). I also tried plugging my computer in via ethernet cable, and that worked too.
