So yesterday I finished my build and everything was fine powered up you can see everything on the monitor. While installing the operating system it did not recognize any devices to be put on. So I looked in my computer to see if I had connected the SATA power and sata data cables correctly. As I looked in the computer I saw that I did not plug in one of the SATA power cables to the SSD. So I powered everything off. I took the back casing off of my computer and plugged it in as I went to turn it back on it did not power up I check to make sure the power cables were in and everything was hooked up. After this happened I put everything down and went to bed and figured I'll just look at it tomorrow. As I came home from work today and took the computer downstairs opened it up unplugged all the wires and plug them back in and still there was no power. So my first thought was to see if my PSU was still working. Took out the 24 pin connector and took a paper clip and put it in the green and black ports unplugged everything for my PSU and turn the power on just from the PSU. The PSU did power up. After witnessing this I plugged the 24 back into the motherboard to try and see if power would restore. After doing that then plugging in the 24 cable i hit the power button of the computer on the case and there was no power. So I'm guessing that its my motherboard. Does this sound like an accurate guess as to what is wrong I'll list my components below. I apologize for any typos I am talking into my phone because I have no computer haha

Case Thermal take level 10 gt

I7 4790k

MSI gaming 5

Corsair cx600

MSI gtx 970

This is all new to m . What is a CMOS button

a "clear cmos button" is a button to manually reset your BIOS settings that are stored on a CMOS chip.  It can be found on the motherboard, or if you are lucky on the back of your computer.

"Complementary metal-oxide semiconductor, or CMOS, typically refers to a battery-powered memory chip in your computer that stores startup information. Your computer's, basic input/output system (BIOS) uses this information when starting your computer." http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/what-is-cmos

Troubleshooting a pc will make you believe in gremlins.

Should I just press the button then try powering it back on? I wonder if when I took the back plating off I hit something with the back plate

Additionally to resetting the CMOS, I'd recommend:

Did you attempt power on without ssd? It could be shorting the sata power connector. (your psu would turn off nearly instantly)

1. Make sure all your cables including CPU power 4/8 pin is connected securely. 24-pin too. Also check to make sure case power on cable is connected to the correct pins on mobo.

2. There should be a power light on your mobo that indicates it is receiving power- (not always) if there is- do tell. Also please look at both mobo and psu while attempting to power on system. Sometimes there is an error light on the mobo.- additionally it is important to see if the psu fan "twitches" in response to a power on. If it "twitches" there could be a short somewhere in your wiring- or just be a bad power supply

I am not too concerned about the power supply not delivering power- it has a single +12 rail, so you couldnt have balanced it incorrectly- ie. both gpu and cpu on same rail etc.

3. For the heck of it- try removing your video card and using the onboard video to attempt to post. (Remove card completely from both mobo and psu.)

4. Make sure your Power supply is set to your region 110V- its easy to have accidentally changed it(not that easy, but worth checking)

Last resort - Try shorting the two power on pins on the motherboard directly- if you feel up to it (do this as last resort and only if you feel comfortable that you wont hit one of the other pins!!!) (It is possible that your case wiring failed.)
