What is this PC gonna be used for? I think you are overspending in a few areas like Ram, and the motherboard.

You don't need 1000W for that, even if you were adding in another 980.

Nothing wrong with getting a completely overkill power supply. You NEVER know what might come. Pascal could be released and require a 1000w power supply for SLI, we don't simply know.

We don't, but in that case, OP would be better off waiting. This build seems to be pretty short-notice, and I doubt Pascal is going to be that much of a power drain. Couldn't be any worse than Fermi, could it?

Unless he's going for a silent workstation, in which case, kudos.

im using this computer for gaming mostly, keep in mind the $5000 is including the desk, chair, monitors, and a keyboard (also it is Canadian pricing). most of the stuff i know about computers is from my research so its good to hear your opinions. the reason i chose that video card is because it was suggested over my original choice (the gtx titan, which is apparently way overkill haha)

I personally wouldn't go air cooled for that money. Why dunp all that heat into the case with the other components when you can use a radiator on the exhaust to remove the heat from the case? For that money you can have a H105, just replace the fans that come with it, they're junk.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

  1. cpu is good
  2. cooling is good, although you could get a nh-d14 instead if you want to save money
  3. motherboard is overkill
  4. ram is overkill
  5. ssd's are overkill
  6. get a better gpu and or go sli with like two or three gpu's
  7. psu is great obviously, but just make sure you have enough hardware to make use of it
  8. for that amount of money, i'd play at 1440p at the minimum! get a 1440p monitor(s)

why not just buy this?

i looked at the motherboard in the build suggestion and found that it was only rated 3-4 stars, so ill keep searching for a cheaper option. if i were to replace one of the ssd's with a hybrid would that work? or would an hdd be better/more reliable? i would like to keep the 1tb ssd for games (faster load times) and the other would be for the operating system and such. as much as i would love to add a gtx 980 ti in canada they are around $850-900 but if i can cut the price enough i will add a second 980 for 2-way SLI

hey guys, im planning on building my first pc. Any criticisms are welcome.

here's the link http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/NG4Nbv.

Informed,

Here's my recommended computer build done in CAD and with Canadian vendors.

Did a computer build based on the Intel X99 chipset, which will do the job very nicely for you.

I picked out a 144 MHz monitor to complete the computer build.

thanks for reposting your build in CAD pricing, if i were to change my tower case to a case with a window would it still be pretty quiet? or do you guys think it would be pretty loud already?

Informed,

The NZXT computer case that I picked out has some noise suppression features in it.

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as a whisper quiet computer system. It doesn't exist.

The BeQuiet Silent Base has three Pure Wings 2 fans pre-installed, and the Dark Rock Pro 3 is a very quiet cpu cooler.

EVGA GS power supply has hybrid fan mode. If you decide to SLI then that will add extra noise. The 850W psu will allow SLI though if you decide to go down that route. If you just want a single 980 ti then swap the psu for a 550W/650W.
