High End Gpus

spartin503

I am going to be in the market for a high end gaming gpu in the coming month, so with AMD's beta driver out and the price drop in the 7990, should I go with it or stick with the GTX780? Or would it be worth it to see if AMD releases anything on the 25th like the rumored 9970?

Wait for the new AMD release, rumored that the 9970 will be 5% faster than the TITAN.

if it has a 300 tdp as rumors suggest, the heat it will produce, and the noise from the cooling required to keep it at a decent temp will not be worth 5%

The EVGA GTX 780 ACX Classified is coming soon. Performance gains over their existing GTX 780 ACX, which already tops the stock 780 and, in some cases, the Titan. The 690, of course, always exists.

The 7990 also is viable, but has higher acoustics and power draw that the GTX 780. Not sure about vs. the 690.

All further "high-ends" are purely speculation at this point. 790? 9990? woooah

The 9950 should be about the same performance as the 780 and then the 9870 should be the 7970, so it really doesn't matter, he should still wait, a price drop should happen on the nvidia cards when the AMD cards get released.

The 780 ACX Classified has been out for weeks on EVGAs website.

I will probably be water cooling the card anyway so that won't sway my desision much.

The 690, of course, always exists.

I'm looking to be around $850-$900 for the gpu and waterblock so the GTX690 is out of the question.

How patient are you? It might be worthwile to wait for the MSI Lightning version of the GTX780 to be released and check the specs.

AMD is basically just competing with 7xx/Titan so if you love AMD and like the 770/780/Titan you would get a 9950/9970 AMD isn't going blow Nvidia away just compete, but I would love to see that :)

AMD will release at the same price as Nvidia or at-least close Nvidia isn't dropping 7xx price anytime soon.

I would go with the 780 costs a bit less and more power efficient and outside of benchmarks it will be hard to tell the difference. Although you should check the comparative performance specific games and programs you plan on using it for

you should forget watercooling and just get 3 7970s, (some are 300$) new, that ll beat any single card out there and is in your budget.

but if you can, wait for hawaii

maybe you could go dual 770 , (if you re looking at a 690...)

also don t forget frame pacing only work on a single monitor setup.

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.

If you play on a single monitor there is really no reason to get a 780 over a 7990, however you'd be making a big mistake if you choose not to wait for the 9000 series, the launch will improve performance and push prices down, chances are Nvidia will cut the pricing on the 780, so even if you don't end buying a 9970 there is still a benefit.

But aftermarket cooling solution will come shot after its release right?

Yes, but under load an air cooling will still not be very good, and pretty much forget about crossfire with air cooling because it will be so extremely hot.
