Or should I really look into putting 10 or 20 bucks more into getting something like a 7850?

7850 is about 30/40% better, definetly 7850! Would be like a 750Ti

The 7850 destroys the 7770. It's worth $20 more, no question.

interesting sounds well worth it tbh

I switched from HD7850 to GTX960 last month. the 7850 gives 60+ FPS in most games on medium settings, 1080p. Some will even go to high or ultra (BF3 for example)
