GTX 970 Clarification

AndrewZ
Go to solution Solved by eelnico09,

The last 0.5gb of vram of the 970 are basically useless. Unless you're playing in 1440p or more it makes no difference anyways.

So I am thinking about a 970.  I was reading some other forums and was confused.  I wanted clarification that the difference between the 970 and 980 is the RAM allocation.   So both have 4GB but the 980 is 4GB and the 970 is 3.5 + .5 GB?  Thanks.

I'll say this all the time, if you don't care about TDP, get the R9 390. Just better raw performance compared to the 970.

- CPU: Intel i7 3770 - GPU: MSI R9 390 - RAM: 16GB of DDR3 - SSD: Crucial BX100 - HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB -

Yeah.... Basically. If i wasn't a 1080p warrior i'd probably have gotten a 390. I just prefer the Nvidia software for the games i play.

I'm using a 970 with my 1440p panel and it runs great :)
