My GPU wasn't connecting to my monitor for whatever reason, so i decided to remove it, reset BIOS etc. However, when i plugged it back into the system, the computer failed to boot at all, instead making a small clicking noise. It was booting before with the GPU inside (not that it was doing anything as it wasn't being able to be connected to the Monitor). If I remove the GPU it boots normally with no trouble at all, but as soon as the GPU is re-inserted same problem. Its pretty safe to assume that its something to do with the graphics card as the computer works fine using the the inbuilt graphics on the MOBO. Ill also mention that the GPUs and mobos normal leds both light up per usual, but pressing the power button causes nothing to happen but a click sound after less than a second.

It was at least running before with the GPU inserted, any help would be appreciated

Build:

GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 980 ti

MOBO: Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK

PSU: Corsair 850i

RAM: Corsair vengeance LP (2x8)

Case: Corsair Obsidion series 550D

and a standard 2 tb harddrive  and 250 gb ssd

Try to boot into Windows by using on-board graphics with your graphics card installed in the system, then after Windows is boot up, connect HDMI/DVI to your GPU and try install drivers again.

I cannot boot the computer with the graphics card inserted into the motherboard, It just makes a small sound and nothing happens, pressing the power button after that does nothing.

Your GPU is dead then? Have you tried putting your 980ti in another rig?

No, I don't happen to have another to put it into, I just seems weird that its fried if the leds for the power come on for both plugs, I also thought it might be fried, and ill re-cable it now and re apply the power cables to see if thats the problem, i dont think its the PSU as the the computer runs without the GPU

If you have any updates, let me know. ;)

Give me a boost.

I'm going to go with that it is completely fried, the sound is coming from the PCI-e port and it seems to be rejecting the graphics card, probably due to a problem in the card, looks like ill be applying for warranty, thanks for the help anyway

As a final update, i swapped my wireless adapter with my GPU as both run on PCI-e ports, the wireless adapter still worked, but when the GPU was added to the other slot, same result, no turn on, so its most likely the GPU. Thanks for the help.

What CPU do you have? Does it have a IGPU?
