Well I would think my hardware is good enough and it doesn't seem to be using a lot of resources either. It's encrypting a 1 tb hard drive and my build is:

Honestly that doesn't give me much to work with, by empty I meant the drive and speed I'm sure there was a way of telling how fast it was going, IIRC it was given in MB/s.

Oh ok, the drive has a capacity of 1tb and I've using ~60GB of it. As for the speeds I'm not entirely sure how to get you those but if you could tell me how I'll be happy to do so.

I had to download it and check it out myself, alright, so in the main Truecrypt window select from Tools then select Benchmark and test the buffer sizes, if I recall correctly the buffer size represents possible file sizes. I tested the 1GB buffer size for you so you get an idea.

Empty 1TB HDDs I've heard took 6hrs, 3TB HDDs on other forums take 8hrs, if you are using 600GBs of it do expect longer times depending on file sizes. Do keep in mind as time goes by it takes longer.
