I will be using the computer I am building for servers for friends and maybe some gaming myself. I am trying to decide if I should spend the extra $50 and get the 5820K with 2 more cores, or stick to the new Skylake i7. One thing about the 5820K though, is that I have the possibility of upgrading to a 5960X if I ever choose to, or even a Xeon. I am on kind of a tight budget, so I do want to wait and see if the Skylake prices go down, or if they will remain almost impossible to get for quite a while.

PC Specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Scythe Fuma 2, EVGA GTX 1070 FTW, 2x16GB G.Skill TridentZ Neo DDR4-3600, WD Black 500GB NVME SSD, 2TB WD Green HDD, ASUS ROG STRIX X570-I GAMING, SilverStone SX700-G, Cooler Master NR200P

Designed for Windows Vista

So its a 24/7 server? Or only when you all decide to play together? What game is the server for? Are you just gaming and running that server? Will you be playing games while running the server? Reply to me so i can see it in my notifications please.

Not really, both need DDR4, and you can get some really good motherboards that are not expensive ($200-300)

@lightningdude38 if you are building a server you might want to look at the 5820K.

Actually, it will probably be on not quite 24/7, but somewhere close to that. Basically as much as possible. The server will most likely be for lighter games such as minecraft or terraria, as that's all the hype in out friend group right now. I will be hosting the server and playing at the same time, yes.

A high end Z97 or z170 is about the price for a low end X99 also you need DDR4, forgot that Z170 now uses DDR4
