Advice on new CPU

So I am really debating between the Athlon X4 860k and the Pentium G3258, The G3258 is pretty upgradable while the 860k is just a good performer anyway. I like how both have unlocked cores for overclocking and I plan to do so. I just need to know which one I should get.

Thanks

Pentium- If you plan on heavy overclocking and upgrading to an i5-i7 later on.

860k if you plan on keeping it for say 5-6+ months.

3258. the 860k is the top end for FM2. the G3258 is the bottom end for LGA1150 pretty much.

i would go with the G3258 that way you will be able to upgrade to a real CPU down the road without having to buy a new motherboard ;)

Yeah, that's the main reason I want the Pentium, I can get an i5 later.

My G3258 was a stuttering bastard, you'd be much better off with a cheap i3-41xx series CPU.

well yes, but out of the two, the pentium is the better choice unless the OP needs four threads now

^^ this is true OP if you can step up to a core i3-4160 for example, this will perform better than an overclocked Pentium in just about everything really.

I would try to save a little more for the cheapest i3. You'd be better off.

Buy neither, and save for an i3. I believe the Skylake ones are being released soon.
