Changing drive letter on storage

Hi,

 

I want to change my drive letter on my hard drive from D to something else, as I think some of the paths have been corrupted. First of all, will changing the drive letter help with that? And secondly, it says if I change the drive letter some programs might not work. If some programs don't work after changing the drive letter, can I revert back to the letter D again without any problems?

I'm pretty sure drives C and D are both hard coded into the OS. C for system files and D for an attached disk drive. All others (including A and B ) are fair game. It might be possible though, and the only reason programs wont work is that they lost their old directories.

The problem is that my D drive in some places isn't called d anymore. It is renamed \\?\Volume{D8A52AE3-628C-11E4-8C69-806E6F6E6963}\Files\Music. But if I put the files in there again you think it would help?

Yeah, thats my main problem. I asked a friend that has some experience with computers. He said he didn't ever encounter that before either. Thats why I am writing on this forum. Might be a rare problem.

The drive gets mounted as H as soon as I insert a disc.
