So i recently bought a SanDisk Ultra 2 480GB ssd when I attempted to format it the option was not there. Now for some reason the drive is also not in the top section of drives and I have no clue what that signals. I have never formatted a drive before so bear with me if its something stupid.

Hey there EvenOctopi,

New drives will generally appear like this. They need to be initialized and then partitioned and formatted. Whenever you see unallocated space, you need to "create a new volume" and, as you saw, it will guide you through the process of creating a partition, formatting it and assigning it a letter. Here's more helpful info if you need it in the future: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=RnYl4n :)
