What exactly are you changing?

The only thing I can think of is are you running sound through HDMI?  I don't see why else Nvidia drivers would affect sound..

 

Try updating drivers, that's the easiest thing to try.

I've tried many diff things but altering anything whatsoever kills sound 

 

Well I've never had that happen to me nor have I ever heard of such an issue.

 

Do you have Windows 10 by chance?

Sure do

 

It could have something to do in combination between the drivers and W10 as some things are still buggy.

 

I've messed with those settings before and haven't lost sound on my end (using W10 as well). I'd reinstall drivers and see what happens. Make sure you do a clean installation.
