If you can get an older sandy i7 for the price of an ivy i5, go for it.

Also, a used cpu is fine as it is probably the part least likely to fail in your system. Once it works, you can most likely rely on it to keep working.

I have an i3, its not amazing but a fx8320 is a much better bargain now, the motherboards are cheaper, the cpu is cheaper(£100 whereas the cheapest haswell i5 is £140) and games will use 8 cores in the future due to the consoles coming out. Do what i have done and play it safe, go for the fx8320 or the 8350 if you really want to.

The only concern I have with a used CPU is how it has been used. The problem is, there isn't any way to find out how it has been used. If it hasn't been overclocked at a high voltage for a long time, and you know it works, it's very likely to last at least a couple of years.

I'd still recommend getting a new CPU; you really wouldn't need more than four threads unless you're doing content creation/editing.

Desktop: Intel Core i7-5820K, Corsair H115i, Asus X99-Deluxe/USB 3.1, G.Skill Ripjaws4 32GB 2800MHz CL16, Zotac RTX 3070, Samsung 950 Pro 512GB in Angelbird Wings PX1, Samsung 850 EVO 1TB, 5*Seagate 12TB, Cooler Master V1200, Phanteks Enthoo Luxe, Windows 10 Pro. Phillips 328P6VUBREB, Corsair Vengeance K95 RGB Cherry MX Brown, Logitech G502 X Plus, Sennheiser HD700.

AYANEO 2S: AMD 7800U, 32GB 7500MHz, 2TB WD SN850X. Windows 11.

Well then, just trust your seller. (I'm guessing you're looking at a 2600K?)

Yes

Excellent choice. I'd say just ask the seller about his/her set-up. If s/he has a high end cooling system, they probably pushed the CPU quite hard, and I'd want to stay away from that. If not, then solid choice, get it.
