I have this R9 290 and an NZXT H440.

 

The card is doing what probably a lot of different kinds of graphics cards do -- it sags a bit.  I wouldn't think it would be much of a problem, but it rests on two SATA ports on the motherboard. I noticed when I was troubleshooting RAID (and since removed the array). 

 

Does any one have any suggestions on how I could prop it up to get the stress off the ports?

Take a bit of string, tie it to part of the GPU heatsink, and tie the other end to the top of your case with just enough tension to keep the GPU off your sata ports. Its either that or propping it up with a cardboard tube from a roll of papertowels.

All six SATA ports are being used.

Hm. You know, I didn't even think of hanging it. That's kind of a good idea.  Fishing line probably wouldn't be too visible/gaudy.

get two straws and put them into each other then tape them together to reinforce it?

Whoa. That's awesome.

Very... very tempting.

I might need two, thought, because I have a Strix 970 waiting to go into an S340 case, too. I have the feeling that video card might need help, too. I'll need to run through their checkout to see what shipping is.

I don't have any fishing line, so I'd have to buy something either way.
