Help setting up Raid0

Go to solution Solved by OxygenNapalm,

So I bought 2 wd black drives for raid 0 and now I have them in and plugged into ports 1,2. They arent going to have the os So i dont need to reinstall right? When I go into bios and set ports 1-4 into raid that makes ports 5-6 raid or IDE. So now where do I plug my boot drive in? I tried plugging it into port 4 and restarted and it showed the create raid array screen and then just skipped over it and tried to boot. I then moved it to port 5 and it did the same thing but ran into errors when trying to boot? Assuming that is because it was run in IDE instead of AHCI. Am I missing drivers or something? I tried to install ASUS's raid driver but it only lets me install windows XP driver... So anyhow im a massive noob to making raid arrays, this will be the first time making one. Can anyone help guide me through this proccess please? :) Im also running windows 10. asus m5a97 mobo

Well nvm figured it worked itself out somehow xD ended up getting into the raid rom and made the raid and had to boot into safe mode and now all works?!

Hey there OxygenNapalm,

It should work fine now. :) There should be a step-bu-step guide on how to do this in the manual of the motherboard. You can always contact their support for assistance if you are having troubles with their product.
Regarding the RAID, you can always do software RAID from the Disk Management in the OS (it's much easier). WD Black drives are great for performance and durability, but they are not designed for RAID usage. For this I would recommend going for WD Red drives since they have additional features in the firmware and hardware of the drive that enable them to work smoother and safer. Here's a link with more info: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=7daLS1
I would strongly suggest to keep backups of everything important on that RAID0 array on another drive (preferably that is not attached to the same system) since RAID0 offers zero redundancy and WD Black drives (since they are not NAS/RAID-class drives) have higher chance of corrupting the data or dropping out of the array.

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
