So I'm looking to get myself a good multimedia 5.1 surround system that I can basically hook everything I have up to. Before you think that sounds crazy I do have a method to the madness since I am a proud owner of a beautiful Mackie ProFx8v2 8 channel mixer & Fx board, and man it's beautiful. My old VLZ2 4 channel took a dump on me so I brought it into where I work to use as a spare parts board.

I currently just use a Z506 with the onboard Asus soundcard on my Crosshair V Formula Z but I plan on routing everything through the mixer and into a good set of speakers. The tv I just bought is a Vizio 43 inch with RCA audio out that I will be making a cable for at work to run it into the mixer since it'll be easier than buying one.

I do NOT mind shelling out good money for some good speakers, but I would like to keep it as close to $800 max as possible but if it's say $830 or something like that I don't mind.

A system I have been looking at lately is an Edifier S550 Encore as I love the looks but also it's setup.

Also, although the Asus on board soundcard is really great, I have thought about a way to do TRS out from my computer to the mixer if at all possible, I don't mind buying a sound blaster card if that is what I must do to accomplish that either.

At that budget you should get a system with receiver and speakers.

Now IDK what to get, im not up on whats good and what prices are.

Why not an AV Receiver and a small 5.1 speaker set? They generally get loud enough for near field use.

This one's actually priced very well:

This is a smaller set that may be better-suited for a desk:

http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Classic-Theater-System-Black/dp/B001202C44

If you don't need network playback, Yamaha also offers the RX-V379 for $120 less.

Me desk isn't all that small, well it is but I have done some modifying to it so it uses space better.

So basically just get a unit with a receiver? That'd be nice and all but then there's no point to the mixer board basically except my mic setup.

I like the Edifier S550 Encore because the "receiver" on it is the same style as the Logitech Z5500, plus it has RCA inputs

You'd likely have cleaner audio using the HDMI connection than running RCA cables from your motherboard's integrated audio (I am supposing that the TV is being used as an extra monitor).

The AV receiver can also handle time alignment and equalization with no additional overhead (and can be upgraded as needed). The Edifier is the choice if you need as little signal delay as possible on the audio, and want a powerful subwoofer.

Actually the TV is being used for my consoles. I basically want to have 1 set of speakers that I can use for both my PC and the TV. Although I could stick with the Z506 I want something.....more. They're good but not amazeballs good.

The only time I won't be using the speakers is when I have my headset plugged into the mixer board.

Would the monitor and the TV be beside each other? I'm just wondering how you'd position shared speakers if the monitor and TV were apart.

If you wanna get discrete surround sound from both your consoles and your PC, then an AVR is the easiest way to do that (aside from buying a speaker set with a surround decoder, which the Edifier S550 lacks).

The downside of running HDMI connections to an AVR is that you can't run both inputs at the same time. You'd have to switch between the console and the PC.

So then I'd need something that could literally decode the sound so it goes to the correct speakers, like the Razer Synapse software I had to download to get my Z506 to play properly.

Edifier has a bigger setup over the 550 Encore, the S760D, it is $900 but it does have the same general look and setup as the 550 but with DTS Surround Decoders as well as about double the RMS wattage.

Do most receiver units have built in Decoders or is there a separate unit that I could buy do do the decoding if say I got the 550?

Also, as for the setup, the TV will generally not be right by the monitors and more so off to the side probably opposite my bed. Generally speaking I want it setup mostly for the TV but for the computer as well in case I need to have audio playing from it. Most of the time on the PC I will use my headset if I need to listen to it.

Almost all current AV Receivers have built-in Decoders.

There are standalone Processors/Decoders that may work (they normally have the pre-amp built-in) with the S550. They normally cost more than mainstream AV Receivers however, as they tend to be higher-end devices.

The S760D can handle lossy surround formats through the digital inputs. It will do discrete lossy surround sound with the Xbox One and Playstation 4 via an optical connection. The Wii U on the other hand will only do surround sound via HDMI (PCM format), which the S760D does not support.

Man with an AV receiver though and those having HDMI now it makes having 2-3 HDMI inputs on the TV basically useless lol.
