Hey all,

I'm trying to build a PC on a budget. This is the part list I have so far:

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($130.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Directron)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($72.00 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($47.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 380 2GB Double Dissipation Video Card ($189.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 300R Windowed ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($50.40 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $591.35

I'm wondering if I should keep this FX-8320 or if it would be better to switch it out for an i5-4590. Also should I get the R9 380, or will a R9 270x do the same job (it's about $45 cheaper right now). I have already gathered peripherals and storage.

Thanks in advance!

Tim

It'll give you better GPU performance and plenty of upgrading room with a socket-1150 MOBO and a 650W PSU.

A few questions - 1. I'm a little confused about the upgrading room on the mobo, especially for RAM as it only has two slots, and with the case room. The case I had listed was cheaper and supported microATX is there a particular reason you chose that case?

2. For a budget PC build don't you think that GPU is a bit of an overkill? I'm new to all this so what exactly makes a R9 290 better than the R9 380.

3. Does RAM speed affect gaming in a significant way?

Thanks!

1. CPU upgrading (1150 works with i5's and most i7's), the case imo looks better, but cases are personal.

2. Might as well buy it now. 290 has better performance: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-380-vs-Radeon-R9-290

3. RAM above 1600 makes no difference in gaming, only rendering and editing etc.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2
