I need to know what card is compatible with my system which is an asus m5a87 motherboard with 870 chipset running an amd phenom II x4 840 with ddr3-1333 4gigs four sticks of of memory

what will work best. I was looking at the 680ti. what do you think

Only ti cards wort mentioning are GTX650ti and GTX660ti, but afterall I would get a GTX760, a little bit stronger than 660ti for the same price.
