hi so I have a network monitor on my pc and i can see my internet speed in my router

soo when I download a file or watch a youtube video or anything it says im uploading something

it usually uploads at 70-80 kb/s ... when im not actually uploading anything

in windows resource monitor it doesnt say I'm using near the same amount of upload speed

the network monitor in my router does say I'm uploading something

it also happens on my laptop which uses windows 10 home

my main pc uses windows 7 and has a gigabit pcie ethernet adapter > it also happened on my onboard realtek adapter before it died last week

so yea

idk if i should be but im kinda worried about who is recieving those 70kb/s

any suggestions on what is causing this?

it happens on my laptop and my desktop so i know it's not a software/hardware related issue

your computer needs to send info just as its receiving it as well, how do you think your computer knows when it needs to be updated and such

70 kbps is nothing to worry about, i would only worry if you start seeing upload speeds like 1mbps and youre not actively doing anything then you may have something using your pc for not so nice purposes

Downloading content actually requires some upload bandwidth too, as messages get sent back and forth letting the server know what you've received. If the upload only happens while you're downloading a file or watching YouTube then the likelihood is that the traffic is part of this communication with the server. If you can watch activity in real time, try a file download and watch the upload rate. Then pause the download after a minute, and resume it after another minute. If the upload traffic stopped when you paused the file download then started again when you resumed the download then that would point to normal communication, and nothing to worry about.

oo okay thanks cus this only showed up on the monitor since like a month and I have a upload speed of a devastating 140kbs (if im lucky) so 70 kbs is half my upload and makes my ping unstable :D
