So I'm gonna be traveling back home pretty soon and I wanna bring some computer components aboard the plane, and I just wanna know if any of the scanners and crap will interfere with the components. I have this laptops bag made out of some kind of woven nylon material, which I carrier my laptop in when I came here, and nothing happened to that, so...

I've gone through airport security with my laptop and a console multiple times. Nothing's ever happened to anything. Just don't try to take any of the components, especially HDDs, through security on you. Not only will you not get through, the magnets they use to scan people with are much more likely to cause damage than the X-Rays are.

You'll have to remove laptop computers and tablets from your hand baggage during security, so I could imagine they want that with components as well.

Now the only problem is if your traveling country to country, they could seize your laptop for investigation and never give it back again.

That's something I've never heard of (though it wouldn't surprise me), but it really depends on where you're coming from and going to I'd say. If you're around Europe and North America I can't imagine they'd do that without reasonable suspicion, and having recently been to Ghana I know about people having to bribe their way out of the country and so on, but never has any property been unlawfully seized.

So I can't even bring like a cpu and a mobo?

I think there's a misunderstanding. You can bring it (I've never taken single components, but full systems a lot)

They will ask you to remove computer things from your backpack (or whatever you take on board with you) DURING the scan. So you'll put it on a seperate try and they'll X-Ray it seperately, and then you'll put it back into your backpack and all's well.

I'm not sure why they do that, I assume it's because a computer could be used to mask things under it in your bag (the X-Rays don't pentrate silicon very well), but neither I nor anyone I know has ever had a problem. They'll be pissed if you just leave it in your bag during security because it holds up everything.

Oh I know how airports work, but you made it sound like they're going to examine my anus if they find a computer component in my bag xD.

If you're worried about some security guy not knowing what a CPU and mobo look like, you could always use luggage, they're not going to break if you have some padding. I wouldn't worry about that though. It's pretty uncommon to take single components with you, so I doubt there'll be many people who've tried it.

But I'd really let them scan it in a seperate tray. I once forgot to do that in Cologne, and it was unpleasant if nothing else.
