So I've done a fair number of BIOS updates in my day but I've always been confused about one particular thing. If the MoBo has multiple updated bios versions I'm never sure if it is OK to simply install the latest one, or install all of them sequentially (only the newer ones above the current revision of course). For example, say a board has a total of 4 BIOS revisions (1 through 4) and I am running revision 2. I will always install revision 3, reboot, then install revision 4, repeating until I am at the latest revision of the BIOS. My question is, do I need to do this? Or is it OK to simply install the most recent update? I'm too afraid of bricking a board to just go and try it out!

Honestly, BIOS updates are never needed unless there's something wrong with the system, I'm sorry but i don't have an answer to your question.

You can install the latest, it normally a cumulative of previous ones. The documentation that comes along normally has that info.

Actually if you mess it up you can buy a new BIOS chip online, yank the old one and stick the new one in. It didn't work in my case(still bad checksum) and wife have Farmville withdrawl so I said bad word and bought new. In my case something else was wrong or I should have bought the chip from ASUS instead of BIOSDepot.

Anyway when you update it erases the old and installs the new. It is a good idea (to me) to google "(mb name) bad bios update"  just to see if anyone else had probs
