Skyrim Help

Go to solution Solved by Canoas,

CTDs (Crash To Desktop) are common when modding. The only way to fix it is to find out which mods are incompatible and that can only be done by deactivating mods and see when it stops crashing and then narrowing it down. No one can help you with finding incompatibilities between mods when you don't know what's causing it nor when or why it happens. Either figure out the mods that cause it or figure out what is happening in the game when it crashes.

Hello. I just downloaded a large amount of mods for Skyrim. To be positive and extra safe, I used BOSS from the Nexus to look over any incompatibilities as well as re-arrange my mod load order. Now, when I load a game in Skyrim around 5-10 minutes in (the same area. a dungeon in Wyrmstooth), it crashes my whole computer. I have to reset/reboot. I don't know what went wrong.

My PC Specs: Core 2 Quad q9550, Radeon 6950 1gb, 8gb RAM. Do you need anymore info? If so, see my profile.

Here is a list of my active mods in exact load order from first to last (brace yourself for a lengthy post because I don't use Nexus Mod Manager. I wish I had  better way to show all of these) as they appear in the Data Files in Skyrim Launcher :

Thanks to those that made it this far. I would have single spaces like sentences, but didn't want any confusion.

I hope this is in the right section.

You have way to many mods for your specs, you should remove some or you won't be able to play.

He doesn't have too many mods. The ammount of mods is irrelevant. You could have 500 mods and it wouldn't affect your performance one bit.

use NMM if you even have to ask this question - I don't understand why you don't

NMM is terrible, why anyone would use it is beyond me. Try Mod Organizer, it's sooooooooooooooooooo much better.

Did you read the description/readme of every single mod you installed? Chances are Wyrmstooth is incompatible with one of the other mods. First go read the description of Wyrmstooth and check for compatibility issues, if there are none then usually you'd start by removing mods that you think might cause the problem, but for you it's impossible. There are plenty of mods that don't use .esps so you no longer known which mods you have installed, and either way you have no safe way of uninstalling the mods. If you're too far into your game to give it up then just forget wyrmstooth and deactivate the mod, if you don't mind restarting then make a clean install of Skyrim, get Mod Organizer and learn how to use it. It'll allow you to get any mods you want and activate/deactivate with no effort and unlike NMM it won't mess up your data since it stores all the mods on a different folder. It also lets you have different profiles with different mods which is awesome.

Also, max money merchants? Really? It's already so easy to make money, you may as well use a cheat and uninstall that mod.

You GPU is only 1GB. Try putting less of a load on your PC. So disable some mods or lower the settings. If that makes in any better then it is probably that your PC is struggling.

Again, the number of mods has nothing to do with it.

I know that but some mods may be too demanding, so by disabling them it may make it better.

Usually the game just crashes to desktop, but games freezing your PC is not unheard of. Just don't play wyrmstooth if you want to keep that save.

My save is inside Wyrmstooth. I managed to "coc whiterun" real quick when it loaded, but then it just froze in whiterun.

Any explanations to why my computer freezes even when not playing the game? It didn't do that before I added these mods.

Then maybe the mods have nothing to do with it and the problem is your computer.

Load an older save. The autosaves and quicksaves are not enough.

Ok. I think it's getting better.

I did an anti-virus just because I was curious and things were ok.

I turned off wyrmstooth and went to an old save in winterhold.

I played it for maybe 10 minutes and then it crashed (the video froze, but the sound kept going). Not like before. I was able to go on the task manager and end it, which is better than restarting.

Is anyone familiar with that kind of crash?

Not sure if I understood correctly but I really wouldn't recommend installing so many mods at once, especially since many of them are more complex than just texture/sound mods. Even if it doesn't CTD, there is no guarantee that mods aren't conflicting, you should try them out one by one. Also some mods might not work well if you apply them mid game (such as SkyRe).

Also, definitely make use of NMM/MO/Wrye Bash or any other mod organiser (NMM has the least features and control but it's the easiest one to learn for newbies IMO) as well as Boss for load order, some incompatibilities and dirty edits and Tes5Edit to merge and clean mods as necessary.
