Hey

so I recently built my first pc and as all first pc there will always be first mistakes and one of those is I bought a nepton 140XL radiatotor to cool my cpu. Now thats all fine and dandy if it didnt sound like iv built a wind tunnle instead of a pc, and so I was wondering if you could swap out the default fans that come with the radiotor for better quiter fans?

I thought you could but I could be terribly mistaken

You can switch out the fans.

it's perfectly fine to swap out the fans on your rad! you can get better performance if you swap it out for different configs like push-pull too!

i reccomend something like noctua as mentioned above, or something by be quiet! their fans should be pretty silent too :D

  • 4 weeks later...

I might be a little late to the party...

I have the Nepton 140XL.. I had an issue with 1 of the Stock fans coming apart on me while running.. CoolerMaster Tech support was great BUT the parts folks just could not seem to get me my replacement fan.. so after 2 months I said screw it and got me

2 Noctua's NF-A14 PWM. in Push/Pull out the back of my Case

I am glad I did..

The cooling is better and quieter with the Noctua's..

I also got me a Zalman Fan Speed Controller FANMATE-2 that I hooked between my pump and my 3 pin Fan Header so I could dial down the pump a little to stop it from clicking at me..

Using Speedfan to control my Noctua's at Idle they are running at 484RPM with a 50% setting that ramps up as needed..

My Pump shows up as 5192 RPM but I think thats just how it translates the information it is recieving.. I like how I can fine tune dial set and forget it with the Fanmate-2. I would have controlled it with a controllable  Mother board Fan header but I did not have any left for that.. If I max the fanmate it says the pump is at 6750rpm and I get some chattering from the pump.. If I turn the fanmate all the way down it goes to 4018rpm so no danger of accidently turning the pump off.. I find the sweet spot to be right about 5000-5500 rpm (as reported by Speedfan)

My Idle temps on my AMD Ph II X4 965

Min Temps 32c cores 800Mhz - 3600Mhz

Max temps I run at about 48c at 3600Hmz cores are running at 56c

Noctua Fans are only at 682rpm even under full load so very silent..

When I run my Noctua's at 100% and 1458RPM the CPU drops to 45c and 52c on the cores.  this is when I can hear a slight hum from the fans but much quieter than the Coolermasters were. since my Temps are fine 681 RPM I just let Speedfan controll them..

I have overclocked to 3800 stable but I sometimes had issues with unstable ram. (I am not and expert at overclocking and not bothering pushing with this old build)

I did finally get my replacement fans 4 months later and I will just put it on top of my case with the other one to exhaust heat out of the top.

Would I get a Nepton 140XL again? Probaly.. I like the basic design.. I like that its an AIO and the thickness of the RAD but most of all I liked the price I got it at..

I am ok with swapping out things like the Fans and adding the Fan controler to the Pump.. The fans did not go to waste I put a resistor cable on them and stuck them on top of the case.

I will use this AIO again when I upgrade my MB and move to Intel CPU in the next year..
