BackTrack problem :(?

Flubber
Go to solution Solved by CornOnJacob,

Go to the settings for that VM > System > Processor > Enable PAE/NX. Check the box. As long as you are running a 32-bit OS in the VM, I think that should fix it (I had the same problem as you a while ago).

That being said, don't use Backtrack 5. The dev team for Backtrack made a new OS called Kali Linux, so switch to that. Backtrack/Kali is a very bad choice for everyday use. I would recommend Mint, or if you want an advanced setup that teaches you a lot, go for Arch.

So, I'm having some troble with BackTrack 5 R3 in vmware when i go to launch it i get and error say "This kernel requires an x86(32-bit)-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU" i dont under stand this is CPU and windows 32-64 bit not the same ? i am running a 64-bit OS (*Win7) any help ?

I'm running it on a laptop

in useing VMWare VM VirtualBox

am i doing somthing wrong ?

really want to use a (Linux) for everyday use and i cant :(

What's wrong with that?  It's a very robust operating system that I use everyday.  I don't even bother to run it on a livecd or usb, I just went ahead and installed it on a laptop, it's a great OS.

But I guess if you don't know how to make full use of it and know how to navigate your way around it easily, I could see why you wouldn't want to use it for everyday use.  Windows is much easier for people without CLI experience and knowledge of the commands needed to navigate it easily and productively.
