That isn't true with the cheap network adapter, I have had 2 less than $20, and they have been fine (And Hideous)

as you said, an Ethernet cable is cheaper and will give you higher speeds, but it can't be used everywhere.

How often is OP going to be taking his desktop with him?

I never said he would move it, I had a desktop a long way away from my modem and the only way i was going to get internet was if i drilled a hole in 2 walls, got a 40metre long Ethernet cable and spent hours putting the cable through the walls.

a wifi card was A LOT easier than doing all of that.

a $20 wireless adapter will work 'fine'. You'll still get loss of speed if you're too far away, up stairs or behind walls. AC would be the best solution to get. And they aren't that expensive.

Oh, right. I had that problem. My router was in a different room from the one I wanted to put my PC in. I went out to the cable box and manually switched them to the room I wanted it in.

Okay i think i shall go with ethernet.... How exactly do i set it up though? Do i just plug one side of the ethernet cable to my router or modem and the other end to my pc?

And no security concerns. No forgotten passwords. No interference. No signal dropping.

I wish I could plug in all my things.
