Too many crashes

Hello, I've been having some issues with my brand new SSD/W8.1/W10, so I was using a hard drive with unactivated windows, and it was slow, so I went out- bought a SSD and a legit windows 8.1 copy, then I started having annoying crashes. First skype or chrome would stop working, then slowly windows would just stop working at all and I would have to turn off my computer manually, I figured upgrading to windows 10 might help, so I upgraded and I am still getting these crashes, 3-4 times a day, and whenever I leave my PC inactive, has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone have a fix? All help appreciated, thank you very much.

Have you removed windows from the old hard drive, or tried removing the hard drive entirely?

The old hard drive isn't connected to my PC anymore, haven't gotten around to wiping it and setting it up as a secondary.

Yes, I removed the hard drive after upgrading to w10.

Have you checked for viruses, malware, or any of the sort that could be clogging it up?

Yes, there is nothing. It's also a brand new install of windows from about 4 days ago and the crashing started before I installed anything.
