Hello everyone!

I am currently in the process of finalizing my build's plan so I can begin buying the hardware. I need some tips and recommendations from you guys :P

When asking me why I chose those parts, it's because I want a beastly computer for everything in general, we can say I'm a "power user". I plan to use it for gaming, rendering(not huge stuff too), programming, web dev, etc.

So here are the parts I have choosen:

Case: Corsair 800D - I like it because it's clean and elegant(dosen't look like a transformer lol) and it's pretty big so I can upgrade my cooling system or pretty much anything in the future.

PSU: Corsair AX860i - ...

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Extreme - I'm aware that this board is has alot of features, I know I won't even use somw of them but I want to use the best stuff, I'm also planning to overclock my CPU, maybe even the GPU.

CPU: Intel core i7 4770K - Self explanatory...

Thermal paste: Arctic silver 5

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i - I don't wanna use a full water cooling system, this seems great and keeps the cpu under good temperatures even when overclocking(from users feedback and reviews) Oh and also because it has corsair link.

RAM: 16GB HyperX Predator Beast (For the speed and voltage, I'm not sure I will need you guys help)

Storage:

  • 240GB Corsair Neutron GTX - For the OS, games and programs.
  • 2TB WesternDigital Caviar black - For all my files and stuff

GPU: This is the part where I'm stuck, I don't want to spend over 600$ on the GPU so I'm thinking about Asus GTX 670-680 or 760-770-780

For the case fans, I'm thinking about some corsair quiet/high performance fans I'm not 100% sure yet.

I'm open to any suggestions, advices and tips from you guys :D and let me know what you think of my build.

Welcome to the forum ! If you want power for anything you might be doing and you can afford it I would see no reason to not buy a 780.

Thank you and yes, I do have the money but I don't wanna go over 2.5K$

Either the GTX 780 or since the 7990 has dropped in price one of them, it out does the rest in performance. but what programs are you suing for rendering? This might help with GPU.

I will be playing games like GTA, BF, Crysyis, etc.(I just want the games to be playable on decent graphics, let's say around 100FPS) and for rendering, well programs like Sony Vegas and Adobe AfterEffects.

What monitor are your running, if your not runnning a 120hz panel, you will never benefit from 100FPS. My guess is your running a 1080p @60hz panel, all you need is 60fps. Your monitor cant disable more than 60 FPS, due to its refresh rate being 60Hz

Dont buy the Maximus VI Extreme, it is the biggest waste of money you will ever spend. Look at reviews from TTL and other various reviewers show just demonstrate how it is a complete waste of money for the 400 bucks they want for it.

I am not sure how much of a boost you will get but I believe that with nVidia Cuda you can accelerate the performance in After Effects, I think you can, not sure about Sony Vegas though,

Yes I am running a 24 Inch LG Flatron W2353V at 1080P and 60HZ but I will upgrade to a better one soon after my new PC will be built.

For the motherboard, I saw pretty nice reviews and feedback but I guess I'll look more before actually buying my MB, what would you suggest me? I want to be able to safely overclock and for sure have SATA3 and internal USB ports.

The 7990 is $140 more than the 780 and is a 6GB dual GPU card, it can play any game you throw at it on ultra, easy. Sony vegas benefits from OPENCL and the stream processor acceleration of AMD cards, and ADOBE is supposed to be updating for OPENCL and Stream processor acceleration soon.

Well on the Z87 Platform, There will be 6 Sata 3 ports off the intel chipset and MB manufacturers can add more using other controllers such as Asmedia and such. For internal USB ports, there is typicall 3 USB3.0 headers on most Z87 Mobos and about 2-3 USB 2.0 ports from what I've seen from most. With 2.5k, you dont seem to be getting much out of your money. Your spending alot of money for stuff that simply doesnt matter. I mean, for 2.5k I would for sure be looking at going custom loop instead of closed loops. Also, you dont need a 860W PSU to run your system. It draws about 500W from the wall max. You shuold really rethink about how you spend your money on this build, for 2.5k you arent getting alot of performance.

It is not a 6GB card. Its two 3GB GPUs on 1 PCB. Which means, it has a 3GB Frame buffer. VRAM doesnt stack when you throw more GPUs at the problem. All GPUs must have the same image in each of their frame buffers to do work on the image.

Very true, it's advertised as 6GB's and didn't want to start a big nerd rage in OP's thread. It's 2 7970's on a single PCB, so yes it is a 3GB frame buffer. but still that is enough to max out crysyis, gta, ect.

Pretty much the cheapest z87 mobo will do what you need.

Thank you for your answers.

I don't really understand what you mean by "custom loop"  and "closed loop".

For the PSU, I chose that because I tought it will be usefull in the future, if I will add new HDDs, new cooling system or extra GPUs on SLI

Making your own water cooling loop is called a "custom loop" while "Closed loop" is something like corsair H100I

Well, lets forget the watercooling then, just buy the h100i. Your spending alot of money in places where it doesnt matter at all. Your case, PSU, and mobo. with the money you save from probably going matx you could probably get 2 780s into the 350d with the maximus vi gene. If you want me to make you a build, let me know. Also, where do you live.

You don't need such expensive parts.

I don't see much need getting anything more expensive than this for your needs: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1pwPS

The system is sli ready and you can add another 16 gigs of rem for a full 32GB if and when you need it.

You could even go cheaper with a 7970 for OpenCL.

Edit: I guess you could also add a sound card if you'd like.

I would recommend the Asus Z87-A/Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H/ MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming as your board. For the gpu, A 780 would be fine. I would also recommend the Samsung 840 SSD since they are pretty nice since the SSD parts are made by Samsung which will mean great quality. If you are getting case fans, I would get the SP series if you have an air filter to provide better airflow.

Heres what I came up with.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1pwY0

Thath's a very decent build, the only thing is the SSD, I feel like it's not going to be enough so I would better go with a 256GB. And I think one 780 would be enough to start I could just get it later :P
