Hi, here's a few upgrades I plan on making to my current build (linked above)

Current build being this.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/mWJ73C

My main purpose of making these changes is to start streaming using the CPU as opposed to the GPU (NVENC or whatever) since I've been getting random stutters during gameplay using the GTX960.

I also want to start using my PC more for graphic design and editing videos. I know there are better solutions out there but I like this option as a good price to performance for my purposes.

I have a budget of around $600 however having it cheaper is of course better while keeping in mind what I want to accomplish with this upgrade. I originally wanted to switch to Full ATX but keeping my budget in check and all that I decided against it. It's unfortunate that there aren't many great boards that are mATX AM3+ it seems.

A big thing I was wondering, if anyone has experience with this. Will i need a BIOS update if I want the system to boot with the CPU I've chosen? I don't have another AM3 CPU around so if that's the case I might have to choose against it.

I would like to keep this around $300-400 as I also want a second monitor sometime soon.

Preach it.

Give me 100 preachers who fear nothing but AMD and desire nothing but Linus; such alone will shake the gates of AM3+.

Where would I even find something that old for a reasonable price. Considering my current Mobo lacks USB3 i might just get a mid-end i5 and grab a newer mobo

Get a i5K series; overclock and probably dont care about CPU upgrades for another 5 years.... Be it either a 4690K or a 6600K depending on what platform features you want...

As for old parts:

Fleabay (Trusted Sellers)

Craigslist (check it works in person and is what they say first)

One of the myriad of tech forum classifieds.

Unfortunately since I live in a pretty small town there's legit no one selling used CPUs or even individual PC parts.

I feel like no one actually read my entire post, and the moment they saw AMD they just think "nope nope nope" Sure AM3 is dead, but it seems to fit my needs.

I really don't want to go Skylake cause DDR4 and price. Going with an older Ivy-bridge processor seemed like the best doable suggestion considering my budget however ^^^...

Waiting for AM4 also seems reasonable.

But seriously... At least read the original post. I'm using my PC mainly for Video/Photo editing and Game Streaming. If I remember correctly Logan from Tek Syndicate even ran numbers while streaming games using the 8350 vs... probably the 3570k or something along those lines and strictly during streaming the 8350 beat it out.

4690K != Skylake, I just threw Skylake out there as an option... Yes 8350 is a good CPU; but the aging chipset is a bit meh honestly.... And I would say you would get far more milage out of a decent Z97 board + CPU than you will out of AMD for most things - Streaming may actually favor the AMD, but video encoding (on its own) will probably favor intel...

AM4 Should be DDR4 and a bunch of new CPUs (by which time prices on DDR 4 should have dropped)
