Didn't they just announce to open source Swift? Getting it to work on Linux is still another step that needs to be done by the community before we can worry about IDEs supporting it.

They did announce Swift is open-source along with the fact that it'll be brought to Linux. I just want to know how soon can we actually use Swift on Linux

I believe that it is suppose to be sometime at the end of this year. Since it will be Swift 2.0 which will only properly come out after ios9 launch.

I am not sure what IDE would be used. Maybe they follow what MS done with visual studio code and write a cross platform swift editor.

U mean release Xcode to other platforms? Hah burn. Apple has been quite proprietary with their products, except for Swift of course

No, they mean that Apple might create a new editor to be a multi-platform Swift editor. When Microsoft opened up .NET to other platforms, they didn't make Visual Studio multi-platform, instead they made a new editor called Visual Studio Code. Apple may do a similar thing for Swift. Regardless of what Apple does, I'm sure some others will offer an alternative.
