Shitty battery? Ultrabooks are the laptops to get most battery life.

Poor cooling? Not anymore. They don't even need much cooling.

No I/O? 3 USB 3.0 ports, combo audio jack, HDMI , mini DP, and a card reader. I have the same I/O on my Lenovo Y50 (if you count the Ethernet adapter on the Asus), and that is a 15" gaming laptop. My old Acer didn't have as much I/O.

Well, i guess im old :/

They do have that battery life, because of low-profile hardware i assume. Or its magic.

I like the old-school laptops.

I can not belive, i can't find a normal workstation laptop in 2015. The "gamer" guys with their gaming laptops have taken over. Oh, well...

Primary: Lenovo T61 / Intel Core2Duo T7200 @ 2.2GHz / 3GB DDR2 / NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Fedora 22 <<<< THE WHITE KNIGHT

Secondary: Compaq Presario CQ56 / AMD V130 @ 2.3GHz / 2GB DDR3 / AMD Radeon HD 4250 / Windows 8.1 <<< THE FORGOTTEN HERO

They have that battery life because they use ULV CPUs and provide more space for the battery than other traditional laptops (percentage). They still are more than powerful enough for most tasks.

Anyway, what's your budget?

Have you considered the ThinkPad W550s?

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo); ASrock Z87 EXTREME4; 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 RAM @ 2133MHz; Asus DirectCU GTX 560; Super Flower Golden King 550 Platinum PSU;1TB Seagate Barracuda;Corsair 200r case.

Grab you one of these, and just use the "Customize" option to upgrade the RAM.  It's about as normal as you'll get.

I'm a bit of a Clevo fan, so I'm suggesting you to take a look at their products. You usually find gaming laptops of them but they also have decent normal lines, and quite cheap as well. http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_pro.asp?lang=en

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Reviews.55.0.html take a look here as well you can find Clevo as one of the brands. The quality of laptop is very model dependent so have a look around.

Good luck! (maybe something like a N150SD?)

EDIT: here's a review http://www.notebookcheck.net/Schenker-XMG-A505-Clevo-N150SD-Notebook-Review.137736.0.html I've seen it go for about 700-800 EU

I would like 1080p playback. Nothing more, and casual old games, like the original Half-Life and Sudden Strike,  but any Intel HD graphics can handle that i assume. I will be running Ubuntu/Linux anyway.

That, is a really nice laptop!

any atom based device can do that

they are just 2 cards connected together using a bridge

No, its 2 GPU's on the same PCB.  No physical bridge to be had.
