Screen Tearing?

What exactly causes screen tearing? I'm using a 980 ti on a 1080p monitor so will there be screen tearing?

Screen tearing is caused by the monitor or GPU not refreshing a part of a frame.

It's caused when your GPU is rendering more frames than your monitor can display > monitor's refresh rate is 60Hz and GPU is rendering 100 frames > screen tearing

Just turn on V-sync and you are good - it limits your GPU to render only 60 frames and syncs them to the monitor's refresh rate

Still - not worth the 500$ more for a pointless feature he doesn't need - he is very unlikely to drop to 30-40 fps where G-sync/Free-sync come in handy.

Don't be foolish enough to think a 980ti is overkill for 1080p gaming, its not.

If u MAX (manually, not presets) a high fidelity game out with MSAA 4x or 8x , u'd see what I mean. Also, minimum frame rates count, if minimums drop below 60 fps at 1080p, there's room for improvement.
