I will be attaching my SSD to the Intel controller, but I have an existing RAID 0 setup which I would like to continue using for data. Do I connect it to the Marvell controller or the same Intel controller that my new SSD is connected to? Do I use AHCI mode or RAID mode?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Native controllers are always better.

Use the intel controller. No matter what they will always be faster at initializing raid than the Marvell controller.

Should I switch the hard drives over to the Marvell controller and then use the Intel controller for the SSD then? The hard drives need to be run in RAID mode whereas I believe the SSD needs to be run in AHCI?

Yup, that statement is 100% correct.

Raid Drives (HDD) to be on the Intel Chipset

AHCI Drive/s (SSD) to be on the Marvel Chipset

Not good to be on forums giving an advice when drunk ;)

But as above, what I said is what I recommend you do~

I was going to put the SSD on the Intel controller and the hard drives on the Marvell controller but you told me to put the SSD on the Marvell controller and the hard drives on the intel controller

Dint touch that marvell controller especially if its X58 era. The intel controller is you best option unless you get something like a LSI dedicated raid card, which you wouldnt do for only 2 drives.

You will not notice a difference with the SSD on the intel or marvel chipset. As said before, you want RAID to be on the more reliable controller :)

Okay thanks :)

However, could I simply attach both the SSD and the hard drive RAID to the Intel controller? Will the SSD still work under RAID mode?

If you have more than 2 intel controllers, then great, do it. And RAID mode will not affect the SSD's performance.

this is probably the only place i'll hang out anymore: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274320-the-long-awaited-car-thread/

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

What if I only have 1 intel controller? Can I attach both the SSD and RAID 0 hard drives to it?

Huh what re you trying to do? RAID HDDs with single SSD?

You said you were bring it from and old system i hope you backed it up because RAID is know to more than likely NOT transfer between systems and controllers. If is was on a Intel controller theres a good chance itll transferbut that about you only chance. in order to do this you need to plug it into the RAID controller. You can plug a single drive into a Intel controller thats setup as RAID and itll work fine. If you have backed it up or wont think itll transfer use the marvell controller for HDDs you shouldnt notice a difference.

Last question why RAID0 HDD and what are you using them for?

Well it's technically a new rig but I'm reusing the same motherboard, so hopefully the RAID 0 will transfer over fine :) If I run the single SSD on RAID mode along with the 2 HDDs, will TRIM be passed along to the SSD?

The reason I setup my drives in RAID 0 previously was because I wanted to combine their capacities into 2TB instead of having two 1TB drives.

yea there shouldnt even be a transfer if its the same motherboard.

yes because the drive wouldnt be in raid and even if it was with Z77 or Z87 they can do trim. Dont forget to load the intel F6 RAID driver when installing windows and then installing the full driver once your in windows.

Dont forget when you do that if either drive dies all data on both drives is lost. This is why I only do RAID 0 on my OS and/or programs drives.

I have a P67 motherboard, is TRIM still enabled in RAID mode on non-RAID SSDs?

should be since the non RAID drives are not in RAID and even if they were in RAID all you would need is a new enough driver for proper support.
