I want to setup some way of having ambient music play in my room from my pc. I have headphones and I would like to be able to switch between outputs. Currently, I have an 8" home theatre sub with a small speaker meant for playing from a phone, both hooked up to my PC. The problem is, I have to go under my desk and switch out cables every time I do that and it gets very annoying. My motherboard is the GA-Z87x-UD3H and only the speaker out output seems to work to actually output sound which is very annoying. What speakers would be good for this application and would I need a sound card?

I've tasked an old ancient Iphone to wirelessly receive audio from my computer via wifi using an app called airfoil.

its got a 3 second lag but for just music/radio/podcasts its perfect for me.

you can set airfoil to grab audio from the entire system or individual browsers. for example I can set it to grab audio from firefox so I run soundcloud thru that and at my computer I just sit and watch youtube vids through chrome each playing sounds on separate speakers.

on top of grabbing audio from individual browsers you can set it to grab from separate programs like VLC or itunes or windows media player or whatever you have.

so despite the lag its perfect for me and convenient because you can set it up so that you have 2 separate and distinct speakers playing separate audio at the same time.
