Hey all~ I'm new to the forum, but I've watched the YTube channel for a couple years :)

I'm planning on building a system for intense gaming/schoolwork/light picture/video editing

I was wondering what a good z87 chipset motherboard would be... I want build in Wifi, and my budget is up to $250-300 for it (I've planned it out it fits into my budget)... any ideas?

I was looking at the ASUS Sabertooth z87

Oh one more thing: I'm planning on overclocking pretty significantly so a board that's easier-ish to OC on would be nice :)

Thanks~

How high of an overclock were you thinking? Even the cheapest z87 motherboard has no problem with 4.8 ghz if your chip and cooling allows it.

As for the sabertooth, you're paying $80-100 just for the piece of plastic and a longer warranty. There are cheaper mobos that can do the same job for much less.

Do you need sli/crossfire? Have you considered a pci-e wifi card?

Thats more than half of their budget..

looking at the sentence i think it would be correct to assume that he has a budget of 250-300$ on the motherboard, besides it wouldn't make any sense to ask for help to pick up a motherboard then feed us with the price of the entire system assuming we can make out how much he can spend on the mobo.

if you want a wireless solution, the pce-ac66 from asus is pretty cool. Though the antenna on that one will very much stand out, and not really something you would hide completely. :p

They're quite good. I'm not entirely sure but I think pci-e antennae is generally better than onboard overall.

The ROG series would be a good choice if you want to game and do video editing. But be wary and choose now which you care about more, you may have to sacrifice performance on one end.

Sabertooth excellent motherboard, and a 5 year warranty.

Yes, but it doesn't have built in wifi.

Personally don't like the sabertooth board because I think that you are paying mostly for the TUF features which isn't worth it imo unless you want a clean build. I would recommend the Z87 Deluxe Board.

I know a lot of people like the Asus Sabortooth boards but I personally DO NOT. They are good boards but I do not like the armor Especially since it could raise your temp of the mobo a lil bit and so they give u a tiny fan that makes lots of noise. Personally I don't see a need for it. Just a waist of extra money to me.

Also buy a PCI-E wifi card. That would be a better solution then getting onboard one I think. I guess it depends on how good an onboard one is.

Boards I like in no particular order

ASUS Maximus VI Hero

ASUS Maximus VI Extreme (more features but might not be needed for you)

MSI Z87-G45 Gamming

MSI Z87 MPOWER Max

MSI Z87 MPOWER

These are my favorites for this price range (200-300)

Then get a wireless card they are cheap like 10$ or if you are concerned about aesthetics get a external USB one.

I totally agree, just thought it was worth pointing out.
