Right so my laptop has this problem where it will just cut out without warning (no BSoD or shutdown or anything). It appears to be a heat related issue as it happens most often when stressing the processor and charging the laptop (or just running it plugged in). The thing is, shouldn't the processor thermal throttle when it gets too hot rather than just shut itself off completely? It's an i3-370M. I've looked in the power settings and it is set to max processor speed:100% min:0% on battery and plugged in so it should be able to thermal throttle.

Any ideas what's going on here?

How loud is the laptop during operation? Download HWMonitor and check the cpu temps

HWMonitor isn't showing a package temp but core temps are around 70

That's bad. See if you can get the dust cleaned out of your laptop's fan heatsink & get some more thermal paste on there. I would advise getting a pro to do it (unless you already know how wink.png ) because inside most laptops are overly complicated. ASUS laptops in my experience have been the simplest to take disassemble and re-assemble, but HP on the other hand is a joke. Idle temps for a laptop should be around 40-50, while load temps in the range of 60-70

Do you think the high core temps are what's causing it to cut out? The cpu seems to be running at 2.4GHz consistently, but shouldn't it thermal throttle when it gets hot?
