I have been trying to install 8.1 to my SSD, after numerous other errors being resolved, like having to convert the partition type to GPT. I managed to get to the end of the installation of my USB, and after removing it when advised, and restarting (booting to said SSD) I get the windows 8 blue screen. It does an automatic restart, and then I get the following error: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered and unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed"

I have confirmed the installer on my USB stick isn't corrupt as I have completely redownloaded and created the boot drive from scratch using the tool provided by Microsoft.

I am getting really frustrated with the windows errors I have been experiencing, please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,

Kevin.

machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS doesn't exist, so I can't navigate to where he mentions.

"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered and unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed" When you get this error just press Shift+F10, It'll open Command prompt then type regedit and then navigate to HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion, Now find the key called “setup.exe” the value needs to get changed from 1 to 3. To do this just double click on the registry key and change the keys value.

Now exit regedit and hit ok on the error message. Now your computer will restart and continue on the Windows setup process as normal.

As I said, the route in regedit doesn't exist, after setup, all that's there is "AllowStart" "Pid" and "SetupCI", so I can't change the value of that key because it's not there.
