clean gtx 970

Go to solution Solved by DudeWazap,

Yes you will have to re apply thermal paste if you take of the heatsink. Keep in mind that the GPU does not have a heat spreader so You need to apply more thermal paste than you would a CPU.

I knew if i did need to apply i would need to apply extra. and the way to take the fans off the g1 is by taking it all apart pretty much which is kinda sad when it looking like it could be dont with 4 screws :l

Just to warn you though, make sure the thermal paste is non-conductive (such as Arctic MX4) because otherwise it will break your card.

I had a customer who did that yesterday, I'm still a bit pissed about it because I had to invalidate his warranty because of it and he posted a bad review of me.

If only dust was magnetic, cleaning would be a 3 second job

I'd imagine cleaning out out would become the least of your issues (To be magnetic it would have to be metal and therefore conductive, I think you can piece the rest together)

I know what you mean, My Asus Direct CUII's are the same way. I ended up just taking them aprt cleaning everything and putting better thermal paste. It did help lower the temps a bit so, it was a total waste of time.  ^_^

Yup, I use Arctic MX-5 on all my builds.
