I am upgrading my build and I just bought the Gigabyte Z97x SLI and I have a GTX 660 Superclocked as a GPU. I want more graphics performance and I want to spend the least possible. Should I buy another GTX 660 SC or would it make more sense to buy something like a 970?

Additionally, I am going from 2 DIMM slots to 4 on the new motherboard, can I add an 8GB stick of Ram from Patriot to my 16GB corsair vengeance kit?

Thanks for the help!

16GB of ram is more than Enough. Upgrade your GPU. What is your budget?

Get the R9 390

The reason that I want more RAM is because I am also running a huge RAID array on FreeNAS, so if theres a way to add that ram in I would love to hear about it.

My budget for a GPU is ideally under 250, but I am willing to hear any configuration. Why exactly is the R9 390 a good option?

Youre running FreeNAS on your gaming system? hmmm....I dont know what to say to that.

The 390 is a good option because of bang/buck.

Buying another 660 would definitely improve performance, but its such a weak card (by today's standards) to begin with that I dont know how much it would actually help. That being said, you could probably pick up a used one for around $100 or so is my guess.

When in doubt, re-format.

Why the 390 is better then the 970 or 660SLI(SLI would be a really bad idea)

-it matches it's performance in DX11 in 1080p and pulls ahead at higher resolutions.

-DX12 currently looks to make AMD have a huge performance increase while giving very little to nvidia. So all new games from now on will perform better.

Very well, my friends. What is the best non reference card for the 390? I have been told AMD cards run really hot, so what non reference is the talk of the town right now?

Sapphire/MSI

If your budget is $250, sell the 660 and buy a 390. It'll help I'm sure.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
