8320 CAN overclock ( theory )

Ok, so i see tons of people saying that someone's best bet , out of the fx processors, is to get the 8350 because the 8320 won't overclock as high. I think i have finally figured out why most of the poeple think this. I think that most of the time when people buy the fx 8320 they also buy a terrible motherboard that is supposed to be a good value. Most of the time they are like i got to 4.4ghz or less but they also have an asrock 990fx extreme 3 or some 970 board that has a 4+1 power phase design.

What are your thoughts after reading this or were you like me when you first saw the fx 8320/8350 and said that the 8320 is just slightly lower clocked and you are going to overclock it anyway.

I'd say it's probably binned a little bit lower,but nowhere near as much as everyone thinks it is.

the 8320 isn't that much different in clock speed I know someone who got to 4ghz on the stock cooler and under volted it slightly. If you had a good board you could probably hit a higher frequency than 4.4ghz. btw nice pic  :)

really sure your not gonna notice the difference between say... 4.4ghz and 4.7  so it probably doesnt matter, you save like 40-50$ going with the 8320, mite as well

I'd go with the 8350 since it's newer. btw is this processor gonna be for a gaming rig? jw

I have my FX 8320 overclocked from 3.5 to 4.4Ghz on all cores, turbo mode disabled on 1.3125v, official voltage for the chip is 1.32v, so mine is actually under-volted.
This is cooled by a Noctua NH-C14.

My friend bought an FX 8350, he can clock his CPU to 4.4Ghz with a slightly lower voltage setting, around 1.28v, is this worth the extra $35-$45 to you ? because that's what it comes down to.

If you can get an FX 8320 + a good motherboard, that would be much better than an FX 8350 + an average motherboard.

The 8350 is not newer than the 8320, they were launched at exactly the same time, the 8150 & the 8120 are the older Bulldozer based chips.

I got mine to 4.2Ghz on the stock cooler, max temp in prime95 is 51c, was under-volted.

Exactly, the binning process is not what people think it is.

Thank you emperor piehead

The 8320 is amazing bang for your buck you can assemble a sub $800 build that will push out some serious power with it. Here is an example of one I made for a guy with a $750 budget though I noted getting a higher end board if he can stretch the budget was going to be in his favour.

CPU:  AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($144.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($89.99 @ Microcenter)
Memory:  Kingston Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($59.99 @ TigerDirect)
Video Card:  EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card  ($254.99 @ NCIX US)
Case:  NZXT Source 210 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $733.67
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

I guess it comes down to how hard the person is looking to clock the chip and if they can part with the extra $50 for a likely better clock (having said that most of the time an 8320 will get a very reasonable clock anyway).

i5-3570k @ 4.4ghz (1.240v) || Asrock extreme 4 || CM Hyper 212 evo

Samsung 840 || WD blue 1tb || WD green 1tb || Powercolor 7870 xt @ (1200 mhz core : 1500 mhz mem)

Powered by a silverstone strider 500w psu in a NZXT 210.
