Hello all. My old computer died (well, the mobo did) a couple of months ago after about 6 years. It was an i7-920, Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P, 6GB DDR3, Corsair TX650, Gigabyte GTX670, 4X3.5" HDDs, Antec 902 Case.

My computer sits in the living room and is connected to a Dell U2312 Monitor and a toshiba 48" full HD TV.

My uses consist of gaming (I was really waiting for the Witcher 3 to come out, as I've really liked the first 2), watching HD movies (sometimes simultaneously) and surfing the web with loads of tabs open :P .

I live in Israel, and the variety of components manufactures isn't that great, so when you recommend stick to the well known ones.

my goals are to build a good gaming rig, that will last as long as possible, without going over kill. and to dabble a bit in OC.

my budget is  7k-9.5k NIS for the computer it self (I don't need a monitor, keyboard or mouse).

this are the components I'm thinking about:

- i5-6600k OR i7-6700k

-  Asus ROG viii RANGER OR Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 OR  MSI Z170 A Gaming M5 OR  (Asus ROG viii gene). I am willing to pay a bit extra on the mobo, as my old computer died because of the mobo.

- 2X8GB DDR 4 2400Mhz (probably kingston hyper x, as finding a 2 module kit is quite hard in here)

- 256GB Samsung SSD. Evo OR Pro (haven't decided yet if the Pro's worth the premium)

- Fractal Design R5 OR Silverstone PS07 (that's the best Matx case I've found in Israel)

Arctic Cooling Freezer i30 CO , and maybe an AIO in the future.

-Video Card (now that's the real tough one, as I might upgrade to a 27" 1440P monitor in the future)

1. GTX970 (Gigabyte, MSI or ASUS. In that order)

It's a card that a little pisses me off, due to the 3.5+0.5 Vram (that can be an obstacle in the future, or even now according to some comments I've read at newegg, if I'm not mistaken)

2. R9 390 (Sapphire,MSI OR Gigabyte.In that order)

It's a good card for the money, but runs a little hot, and frankly, AMD isn't up to par, driver wise and feature wise, as Nvidia.

3. GTX980 (Gigabyte, MSI OR ASUS, in that order)

Amazing card, but priced a bit high relatively to the previous cards.

- Seasonic Platinum 860W OR FSP Aurum Platinum 92+ 650W Modular

the Seasonic is a lot better and comes with a 7 years warranty as opposed to 5. (and NO, I can't get the 660 or 760 watts PSUs from Seasonic)

-OS: Windows 10 64 bit (yeah, I'm ready to take the plunge)

That's about it.

thanks in advance for all the replies and insights.

@Ovego follow your topics and welcome to the forums.

Have you checked out pcpartpicker (in your local currency) to see what is available there via that website. If the general stuff you want is, then let us know total budget and we will go ham for you.

Apparently there is no Israeli pcpartpicker damn.

For the Graphics card, go with an R9 390X cheaper than the GTX 980, and ALMOST as powerful. Also AMD is up to par with drivers and features, they weren't years ago. Almost every Nvidia feature has an AMD alternative. Nvidia has been struggling more than AMD with drivers recently, due to Windows 10. And as for running hot, depends on the cooler really. None of today's cards run hot at all.

you dont need a PC that cost 7 grand US

I hope to hell your talking about a different currency

Things are more expensive in other countries, but I doubt it is US if these are the parts that he is choosing.

'almost' is a pretty strong word, but if thats what you are looking for then there is little reason to buy a 390x over a 390. Very small difference that overclocking takes care of with ease, and its 100 dollars cheaper.

But once overclocked it is faster than a factory overclocked 980 (just). This justifies it IMO, and anyway he supposedly has 7k of a currency, which sounds a lot. Lol.

Once one gpu is overclocked it outcompetes the stock of another gpu??? YAY! That literally means nothing.

Good 980 cards (like HOF/Classy/Kingpin) after overclocking have outperformed the FURY X... Does this make the Fury X which costs 150 dollars more worthless?

Oooooh Okay, *walks out*'

I can do European, US, Canadian but not Israeli, I just cant do some to such limited stock in foreign countries

No worries, Ronnie.

my "upper limit" is roughly 1550US$

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LknwQ7

It'll be nice if it were cheaper , but I'm planning on keeping this rig at least as long as the old one, which was 6 years (with a midlife video card upgrade)

I think that the 390 is a good place to take the total system price (the delta between the 390 and the 980 is roughly 1050 NIS).

what do you guys say about the SSD? EVO OR PRO?

Evo is more for gamers, Pro is more for well, I would like to say content creators, because there isn't a huge gap in performance that a normal user will notice That is pretty much exactly what I would recommend. I would recommend the 290x instead of the 390 since its just a re-brand and costs more, If you want it to be future proof, Go with a 390, but all the 390 is, is just a re branded card with 4GB more of VRAM
