Does anyone use this? Curious as to why I would/should use this rather than V-sync? Will it be better to set it to 55-59 fps and get rid of V-sync all together?

It just sets the frame rate to a certain point, so they don't go above it. You can do that with a lot of programs.

You'll still get tearing.

If you use V-Sync, it will sync your frames so that you don't get tearing, but it might also drop down to 30FPS, if it gets below 60, which will be a stuttery mess.

So, if you are able to keep your frames above 60 and you only have a 60Hz monitor, then V-Sync makes sense.

If you're not able to keep them above 60 and you have spikes from time to time where the frames might rise above 60, then limiting them is probably not a bad idea, because your GPU won't use as much juice and will also run a little cooler.

If you simply don't want V-Sync because you think it's for pussys, then you can also use it of course.

So if I were to set the FRT to 55 fps and run it like that no tearing would be noticeable in games and I'd not have to deal with V-sync BS?

That's not true, in GTA V with both HD 7950 and  GTX 970 even if I dropped below 60FPS I never dropped to 30.

So is it better to have 50-60 fluctuating with V-sync or FRT to 55 and be done with it

I was talking about V-Sync.

V-Sync goes either to 60 or to 30. There is nothing inbetween.

This FRTC thing, which is essentially a frame limiter is NOT V-SYNC.
