So I decided to do a test-record before recording my next video, and boy am I glad I did.

I'll be playing portal, but for whatever reason, the video likes to just freeze on a single frame and stay there. Audio and everything else works fine. Just the video freezing.

Now, I AM playing the game in 16:9 mode on a 4:3 monitor; but that shouldn't really cause a problem, should it? (I really don't know)

I haven't had an issue playing any other games yet.

EDIT: Just tried it in 4:3 mode. Same thing happened.

GIGABYTE Z97MX-G516GB DDR3 | I5 4690k @ 4.4ghz | 1TB SSHD, 500GB HDD, 128GB SSD | GTX 1070 8GB | Corsair Graphite 230 | EVGA 650W | Hyper 212 EVO

Cinebench R15: 636(all cores), 127FPS

So you're playing on a compressed ratio, (16:9 to 4:3 means the width of the screen is downscaled), recording in that compressed resolution.. Seems that that is the problem. Have you tried recording in your native resolution for test purposes?

Look at edit; did the same in 4:3

On what kind of disk are you writing your recording? On the same disk as the OS/game? Is it an SSD?

If you don't have a high enough writing speed, the whole system will hang and no frames will be recorded. (OS has priority)

Happens with and without recording. Reboot also did not fix it.

Dropping video settings a little seems to have fixed it (or at least prolonged my allowed time before it happens again ><)

Maybe an unstable overclock of the CPU/RAM which causes bad performance. Try to save your current BIOS settings in a profile, and then try default.

Currently all my items are on default speeds.

Don't currently have the internet speed for that option sadly >< Dropping video settings SEEMS to have fixed it.

Right...

Try and make do with that for now, since it seems to be working fine by the sounds of it.

Hmm......

Tried verifying the cache to make sure it's not the game screwing something up?

Right click the game on the Steam library, go into 'Properties', and under 'Local Files' there's an option to 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache'.

Right, so everything's there...

I assume you mean Skyrim worked when you tried to record it, right? If so, then...I can only assume the game installed badly. It happens, sometimes.

How bad is your internet speed, exactly?

Supposed to be 10mbps download, 1mbps upload. We are lucky to get 1 download, 1 upload.

Monday we are switching to a different company that has a better reputation with a better package (50/5)

1Mb download......that's dire.

Downloading it overnight's not really an option in that case. Can you wait it out until you get the better package, maybe as a means of testing the download speed?

Well, for now, I'm just going to switch it to Skyrim for the recording. Nothing wrong with that~

I just hope Skyrim stays stable...
