Brand New Scuffed CPU

Hi, I bought a FX-8350 on NCIX.com and I received it scuffed up. Is the scuff going to decrease the cooling effectiveness or anything ? Is it a common thing ? Should I return it ? The scuffs kinda bother me even if I won't see it in the PC  Thank you fore your awnsers

some users sand the surface to "lap" the surface to make a more direct contact.

otherwise, an overzealous way to clean the CPU of TIM paste.

How badly scuffed is it? If it's deep enough it may start to cause a localised temperature hot spot (it could get filled in with a thicker section of thermal paste, which would lower the thermal efficiency). Can you post a couple of pictures, please (e.g. one from above and one from a lower angle)? The heatspreader on new, modern CPUs should be basically uniformly smooth to the naked eye.

It' scuffed at the point where it's a brownish/tan color

they've sanded down into the copper base of the heatspreader. not ideal, but

functional. are the markings still legible?

Yea it's only scuffed on teh side
