Hey all,

I just updated to windows 10 today and I am having a few problems.

For one, youtube videos lagged very badly until I used the amd catalyst control center to update my drivers(i assume this updated my both my cpu and gpu as they are both amd?) so I think that problem is fixed as games run fine now too, but my second problem is that my computer doesnt recognize my headphones at all. The sound just goes through my speakers on my monitor. How do I fix this?

Also, do you have any advice on a software to check that all my drivers are updated? If there is no sofware how do I make sure my computer is running as well as it could?

Is there anything else I should do after a 8.1 to windows 10 upgrade?

Regards,

Jackson

(P.S. if you need the specs they are in my profile)

right click the speaker in the bottom right and go to playback devices.

pick your headphones and make those the default device.

you can also disable the monitor speakers if you don't plan on using those

I'm guessing, you're connected to your display with an HDMI cable. If so, switch the playback device by right clicking on the speaker icon next to the clock, Playback devices, Speakers (right click), Set as Default Device, Apply and see if it worked.

Edit: I wouldn't recommend using a third party downloader. The ones that are free and not trojans provide no warranty or support. Use the Catalyst for GPU driver updates. The rest are fine as they are. If it's not broken, why fix it?

You are a god. Thank you so much.

Did you force upgrade, or did it happen naturally.

I scheduled an upgrade after reserving it a few months before. It updated today on schedule.

I don't trust the free upgrade of Windows 10. I found out that lots of people who installed it turns out to have problems with their system. Some apps doesn't function well and others would suddenly turn off. So I didn't download it. I just use VPN to be safe in all my browsing and continue enjoying the worth of my device than to have a system that would destroy it.

That's weird. Re-check the devices after reboot. If the problem still persists, try disabling the devices you're not using. HDMI can be problematic since it's autosensing. It can really act up on random loss of connection.

nope. Should I have done one? If so, can I still do one? If I can still do one, how?

Go in the new Settings of windows 10, then in Update & Security, go in Recovery > Reset This PC. Choose to remove all the files.

Should be straight forward from there.

Or if you truly want to do a 100% clean install, you can download the ISO

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

And completely format. Don't worry if it ask for a product key, skip that, you've already upgraded so your computer is registered with Microsoft. It will activate itself the moment you connect online.

Before doing either of those, I suggest you download the latest Network drivers for your PC and keep them safe on a USB key/another HDD, just in case. Wouldn't want to end up without internet now would you. You can also get the rest of your drivers, like GPU, sound card, etc... to save some time. Don't forget to backup things like your documents, bookmarks and what not, before doing a clean install.

yes you can do a clean install now

just burn the windows 10 iso to a usb stick ..and boot off it

delete the partitions..remake them...and install

then make sure you get the newest drivers
