I'm assuming he will just be using word and things like that then?? Not really a workstation then... more of a media type PC.

That's specific what kind of the programs is he using or what is he doing otherwise we'll just assume it's a media pc

Why not a laptop? for $600 you get a good pc that seems like what he needs and it's transportable?
