So I am compiling a part list for my dad. He is a chemistry professor and this will be his work rig so basically no gaming will occur on this build. This is mostly for dealing with data relating to his classes and whatnot. The University that he works at is supplying him with $1000 for this build. Here are the parts that I have:

Suggestions???

Current Rig: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3, ASRock H97 Pro4 ATX mobo, 8GB 1600 MHz G.Skill Ripjaws, GTX 970, Corsair 550W, Kingston 120GB SSD & WD Black 1TB HDD, NZXT H440 Case.

A build on the lines of this would be great for him. I assume this will be in a classroom so it should be silent.

No, his office is far away from the classroom. Noise is sort of irrelevant, but nonetheless, I am trying to compile a relatively silent build for him

He shouldn't need one of the new skylake processors. I think a 4690k would be fine for him?

ITX will allow the thing to sit on his desk easily, always convenient. Much better PSU, double the RAM because, well, you were given $1000, make the most of it. Slightly faster HDD, same reason. Added an optical drive because there will always be situations where you might need one. They are so handy. Also added a better cooled 750Ti, 2 fans vs 1.

Went with the new I5-6600k and Asus motherboard. 8gb of ddr4 2400mhz ram.

I say 250gb should be plenty, but with the room you could just get a 500gb ssd. In both cases he shouldn't need a hdd.

With simple gpu.

Also put in a disc drive since he's a professor, who knows maybe it'll get used
