The irony is that even high end AMD CPUs would bottlneck a 290.. and it's an AMD product. Yours doesn't stand much of a chance unless you're playing Habbo. Just kidding, first response nailed it.

But will it bottleneck the GPU?

 

it will, but it will be able to process much more than the amd cpu ( thus bottlenecking at a point with much more particles than where the amd starts to bottleneck it )

 

gaming = all singlethread performance really

I have a 4460 with R9 290 seems fine :P

 

4670k/4690k will make him more futureproof(overclocking ofc) and even my 4690k on stock settings bottlenecks my 970 in certain games/particle scenarios ( gpu usage drops to 70 or even 60% )

 

need 4ghz+ to make sure it doesnt bottleneck in any game at all ( for 99% steady ofc )
