I haven't heard of this either? What do you mean exactly? :) purely interested, because I overclocked my 4690K with that particular motherboard :P

with haswell cpus, you have the option of overclocking the core ratio and the cache ratio along with the vcore and vring. for some stupid reason, gigabyte boards don't allow you to set adaptive mode for your cache ratio and vring so that they downclock during idle periods or periods of less stress. it remains on static mode all the time, which means the cache frequency and vring are at the inputted values 100% of the time. this wastes energy and reduces the lifespan of the cpu

Thank you for the explanation, i'm going to search for the things you've pointed out and i might get an asus or asrock motherboard instead.

if you overclock the i5-6600k, it beats the 4790k in some games. here are the benchmarks:

the new z170 motherboards are so nice. just make sure you overclock it!

It looks great in the benchmarks, i will check it, i'm curious if the main skylake has 3.5GHz can i overclock it over 4.2GHz?

@kasdj4

whats your budget? are you looking for a gaming 1080p monitor? if so, what is your budget including the price of the monitor?

edit:

you didn't include a case in your original post. do you already have one?

I have the case name but it's not available on amazon or any other website i can't even find pictures for it, i guess it's a new case or something, it's worth 110-130$.

My whole budget for the pc including the monitor is; 1500$ and yes i'm looking for 1080p monitor.

you can potentially overclock it to 4.6 ghz on the core. i have a cpu overclocking guide which should help. there will also be other guides around too. if you need help overclocking, just pm me.

take a look at the following monitors @ 1080p. they have 1ms and 144 hertz. this is what you want for gaming. everything below is over 23 inches.

  1. Asus VG248QE
  2. BenQ XL2411Z
  3. BenQ XL2420Z

edit:

i have an ips monitor @ 5ms, 23 inches, and i regret buying it for gaming. i should have gotten a 1ms, 144 hertz monitor. this was back in 2013.

here is a build with a great gaming monitor @ 1080p. the motherboard does NOT have SLI support; i had to cut costs somewhere. also, i had to add a bronze psu, but it's of high quality as it's made by seasonic. you should have enough wattage to overclock the cpu and the gpu. the case is very nice as well. i own the same one. great quality. this is a very solid build.

edit:

the gigabyte g1 gaming 980 has a very high out of the box boost clock so you can enjoy your games without having to overclock right away. as you learn through my guide, you can start applying the overclock.

Thank you for everything, it's even better to clock it over 4.6GHz,i already saw the monitors and i am going to get the asus, great build i'm glad you gave those parts now because tomorrow i'm going to my parts supplier to change some things based on your picks, i'm not going to add sli or crossfire so that's fine.
